Dreamweaver MX 2004 Updater released: 7.0.1

Published by at 1:06 under Wayback Archive

I know that a lot of people have been waiting for this; today we finally released the updater for Dreamweaver MX 2004 (the latest one in the range of Studio MX updaters – pages should be updated every moment).

Many of you will like the fact that the timeline is back, due to popular demand. So yes, sometimes we really do listen to you ðŸ˜‰

Serious though, without the great feedback from our customers the Dreamweaver team never would have been able to deliver this updater. As Jennifer Taylor, Dreamweaver Product Manager, told me; “With the release of MX 2004, one of the biggest customer complaints was that we’d removed the timelines feature. We recognized that we’d made a mistake and added it back as part of this release.”

Furthermore the team has focussed on improved stability and performance across all platforms, especially on Macintosh. According to our test, Dreamweaver MX 2004 now is up to 70% faster on a Macintosh and up to 50% faster on Windows!

Last but not least the team fixed many bugs. Actually, they fixed more bugs in this release than in any other version of Dreamweaver. Just a snippet of the things that the team has been working on:

  • Improved the rendering of ASP.Net controls
  • Fixed common user interface issues, such as the “dancing toolbar” and flickering panels
  • Improved the quality of FTP
  • Improved Site Management functionality
  • Improved CSS editing and rendering
  • Improved Find and Replace
  • Cleaned up copy and paste from Office to better respect formatting defined in Office

So why did I say ‘finally’? Well, the number of people from the Dreamweaver team that were working on this updater is huge! I heard it was an all hands on deck effort and that they’ve been working on it since we shipped the MX 2004 version… that was a long time!

The feedback from the beta team on these improvements has been very positive, so go and check it out. I am looking forward to your feedback on this updater.

ps: Cudos to Jennifer for sharing some insight information with me!

  1. HomeSite+ has a great SQL Builder. Why does the DWMX one suck so hard?
